'''The Orange Girl and the Philosopher''' started life as an entry into the monthly ''[[Dorrie's Challenge]]'' on the ''[[Slingink]]'' writing forum, in November 2008. The prompt that month was "Celebrity", and '''The Orange Girl and the Philosopher''' was - much to my surprise - voted first out of ten entries.

===Placings===
'''The Orange Girl and the Philosopher''' was highly commended in the Autumn 2009 ''[http://www.jbwb.co.uk JBWB] Poetry Competition.''

I sent it to one or two other places after that, but without any great enthusiasm, as I still wasn't entirely sure if it was any good. Then I sent it to the 2015 ''[https://www.yorkmix.com YorkMix Poetry Competition]'', where it was commended, by the judge Carole Bromley.

===Notes===
I'm still not 100% sure whether or not I like this poem. The way it pits an old male philosopher against a young vacuous female seems ever so slightly sexist, but the fact that it's been commended in two separate competitions suggests that maybe I'm overthinking this.
