Hmmm. Looks like it’s a year to the day since I posted this. Doesn’t time fly, eh? Interestingly, I notice that I didn’t quite stick to my original intentions. Ah well. These things are meant to evolve, and when you’ve got your own platform, it’s hard to avoid the temptation to use it. I just hope that I haven’t been too boring and self-indulgent.
Anyway, I’ll try to avoid the temptation to rabbit on about everything that’s happened since that first post, although it’s certainly been an interesting twelve months. It’s a bit more interesting to look forward to the future, because the real challenge starts now. Time to start writing something a bit more substantial, I think.
A year is certainly an achievement. Apparently most blogs dwindle to nothing in about three months on average. I’m coming up to the two-year mark myself. It’s been hard work. I won’t pretend for a minute that it hasn’t been, especially promoting the blog and trying to build up a readership. So, well done. I’ll be watching to see how you get on this forthcoming year.
Thanks, Jim! I haven’t found it too hard to keep it going so far, although my posts are considerably less rich in content than the ones on your blog. But whatever the form the blog takes, I think it’s an essential tool to make your presence known as a writer these days. It’s certainly opened at least one door for me. The fact that it might not have been quite the right door at the time is neither here nor there.
In my experience, those who are concerned they might be self-indulgent are not.
Thanks for that thought, Cathryn – nice of you to drop in.
