Jennifer Standage

Jennifer Standage ('Mrs Standage to you, please') was the housekeeper to the Vavasor twins during their time at their shared cottage in Little Wilbraham. Her loyalty to 'her boys' was unflinching, even during the horrific sequence of events that led to both their deaths. There was a brief period during which she was considered a suspect in the murder of Pythagoras, but the absence of evidence or motive soon led to this line of enquiry being dropped. Shortly after this, she retired to obscurity, taking the Vavasors' cat µ with her. The only person to have spoken with her during this time was Dinsdale Mazloumian, although the veracity of his account of his interview is disputed.

In fact, Mrs Standage was living in Lewes under her maiden name of Evans. Unfortunately, Rufus Fairbanks located her address and got to her just before Tom Winscombe did and killed her with a poisoned pork pie. Tom did at least manage to rescue µ, and his and Dorothy's subsequent interrogation of the cat proved helpful.
