Inspiration

Back to School started life under the title "Time Out" as an entry into the monthly Dorrie's Challenge on the SlingInk writing forum, in September 2009. The prompt that month was, ironically, "Back to School", and there were thirteen entries, although unfortunately I have no record of where it was placed.

Placings

Now under its new name, Back to School was a finalist in the Single Poem category in the 2009 New Writer Awards.

Notes

This is a very personal poem, in that it deals with the aftermath of my mother's death. The name Peter was chosen at random, to avoid having to actually refer to myself by name, which would have sounded odd. Especially if I ever had to read it out.
